It is important to understand what a recipe is in order to organise your chatbot properly. Think about recipes as "scenarios" or "conditions". The simplest recipe can go like this:

IF your users say HELLO
(Input: keyword)

THEN your bot replies HEY
(Output: text)

Recipes define your chatbot, the more recipes you create, the more options your chatbot will have.

There are multiple types of recipes you can create for your chatbot. Most of the time, a recipe has an input AND an output (You can triggered recipes with buttons).
